The Jamaica Social Investment Fund’s (JSIF) Rural Economic Development Initiative (REDI) Project, funded by the World Bank, aims to improve market access for micro and small- scale rural agricultural producers, tourism product and service providers. This is facilitated specifically through the provision of grant funds to rural community based organisations for the development and enhancement of agricultural supply chain linkages and community based tourism initiatives.
JSIF/ REDI has three main elements:
Pre- Feasibility Assessment – to prepare pre- feasibility assessments on the technical, organisational and financial viability of proposed business ideas submitted by applying community groups
Business Plan Preparation- to prepare business plans for 8 community organisations in St. Ann, Manchester and St. Elizabeth that will be undertaking the growing of greenhouse vegetables.
Business Advisory Service and Mentorship – to provide business advisory support and mentorship in ensuring that the businesses are operationalised as per approved business plan.
Development Options developed business plans for community groups in 2014, and is now providing capacity building support services to clients as they commence their agricultural enterprises.
